Lexinomicon closes when I open a workbook Effected Platform: Macintosh Description: Lexinomicon closes when I navigate a workbook. This problem effects Macintosh Users. It is do to a bug in Apple's implementation of Java. Solution: Download the latest version of Lexinomicon. Note that this bug may reoccur when Apple presents a new Java download. We will have a new version of the application available within a few days. I cannot open any workbooks Effected Platform: Windows Description: I receive a notice that the file does not contain any useable material. This problem effects Windows users. Java 5.0 (JVM 1.5) come installed with classes for parsing XML documents which present some compatability issues with the 1.4.2 classes used for development. We are currently assessing the necessary code changes to fix this and these will be included in a forthcoming release. Solution: For now Windows users may follow these directions for installing the 1.4.2 JVM on their computer. Progress Bar and Large Workbooks Effected Platform: ALL Description: After I open a Workbook and the progress dialog closes, when I navigate th eWorkbook I see "Not Found" for the sections and exercises. Loading Large Workbooks take longer than indicated by the Progress Bar. Solution Please note that the progress dialog for opening large Workbooks is out of synch with the actual operation required to completly construct the Workbook in Lexinomicon.  Wait until the new Workbook opens in the application before trying to use the Workbook. This may take up to 3 minutes depending on the speed of your computer. If you open the workbook and see that any of the Exercises are labeled as "Not Found" then the process is not complete. Give the application another minute or so to finish constructing the Workbook and then close the workbook and redisplay it using the Workbooks menu. If you quit the application before the Workbook is completely constructed you will need to re-open it. Once a Workbook has been opened and completely constructed you do not need to open it from the Workbook file again. Lexinomicon Showoff crashes my computer Effected Platform: Windows Due to some yet to be determined cause, the streaming video linked to by Doreen and David (Lexinomicon Showoff::Media::Video::Doreen and David) will cause the host computer to consume 100% available cpu usage and effectively make the computer appear frozen. Solution It is best to just avoid that exercise altogether. The remainder of the exercises seem to be fine. If your computer does freeze open the task manager and kill the unresponsive applications.
