Final Comments: May 23

Having ended early yesterday, we did not expect to be free this afternoon. But much to our surprise, Prof. Rutter let us go after we disembarked from the Vodafone ship. Two days in a row of free afternoons; its almost like a weekend. When we got off the ship though, we had to trudge through a stream of hotel people trying to get us to stay at their hotel. We decided on a place recommended by the hotel owner on Paros. It turned out to be a great choice. The owners are friendly, courteous, and helpful. They drove us from the port to the hill and pointed out all the sights along the way. We were awed when we arrived, for instead of rooms lined down a hallway, the complex is a set of “studios” complete with kitchens and doors that open to the outside. There is even a pool. Though the pool was tempting, we (Neha and Jackie) were both very hungry and decided to go to the nearest grocery store to stock up on food. Along the way, we began to think about our meal, wondering what we would be able to find. Then Neha thought of the kitchen and suggested that we look for pancake mix. We didn’t think we would find it, but we kept our eyes open anyways. But while strolling down the dairy aisle, low and behold, we found Aunt Jemima’s Pancake mix and Maple syrup. Immediately, we grabbed a box and all the necessary ingredients and headed back to the hotel to enjoy our pancakes. On the way we ran into Ben; he could tell we were up to something and began questioning us. Noticing the syrup in our bags, he gasped and his eyes lit up. “You didn’t… Oh my god!” was all he could say. So we explained our quest and how we came upon our treasure and promised him one if we had any left over. The kitchen was easy to use, and after half an hour of mixing and flipping, we sat down to enjoy our delicious meal.
