The Santorini Sunset: we experienced one last night while sipping drinks (or eating ice cream and waffles) by the cliffs.

A white Roman Catholic cathedral, around corner from the new archaeology museum in Fira.

This is a woman from the famous “House of the Ladies” fresco from Akrotiri that dates to the 17th century BC that is on display in the museum in Fira.

The famous “Blue Monkeys” fresco from Akrotiri.

On display is a gold-cast statuette created from the “lost wax” method, commonly used for bronze casting; it was found in 1999 in Akrotiri when excavations had to be performed in preparation for the construction of a new roofing structure.

This is the beautiful, black sand of Kamari. Some of us managed to enjoy some sun before catching the bus back to Fira.

Everyone poses for a picture against Santorini’s beautiful cliffs before we board the boat to the volcano.

Abby and Caleb perform some ritualistic rock-hugging on a pillar near the crater of the volcano.

The crater: much to our disappointment, there was no pit of molten lava in the center, only cooled, volcanic rock.

Peter, Neha, Ben and Prof. Rutter stand at the edge of the volcano crater, near the vents and sulfur deposits. Apparently, the fumes have already begun to affect Ben …

On the way back up the cliffs to Fira, Caleb and Jackie smile for the camera in the cable car.
