How do you get down behind the South Wing of the Propylaia? Oh, you just climb over the guard rail, watch out for the scaffolding, go around the corner, squeeze into that little space between those walls, drop four feet to the ground, slide in through one side of the scaffolding, climb out through the other, go around the corner, and you’re there. Oh, and watch out for nettles. We were amazed at Professor Rutter’s ability to get us where no one else can go, and also his pull in getting Dr. Forsén, the head of the Finnish School, to talk to us. Forsén’s lecture was complete with a great handout and lots of new ideas. Unfortunately, today’s planned visit to the National Museum was moved to Saturday, because today is the last day of the winter season, when the museum is only open until 3 pm. A few of us got suckered into buying 4.50 Euro glasses of orange juice at the Akropolis food stand. It was good, but it wasn’t 4.50 worth of good. Archaeologists are in incredibly good shape. We are not.
