A note to all potential visitors of Athens: the Central Market of Athens is not a market, per se. More accurately, as Caleb put it, it’s a Market of Death! There are rows and rows of dead, bloody animals hanging on hooks, livers and entrails, and decapitated heads complete with eyes everywhere. The vendors are especially scary in their blood-stained aprons, and the sound of cleavers hitting bone is not especially pleasant. After being horrified, we tried to escape, only to find ourselves in the Fish Market, which was equally unpleasant. The smell of decaying animals isn’t one we hope you ever have to experience. Speaking of food though, the tiropita, spanikopita, souvlaki and gyros have all been quite good so far!
