We’ve learned a few lessons about London in our first day here:
Lesson One – When one attempts to cross the street in London, one must remember that London is not Hanover. First and foremost, the traffic is coming from the opposite direction from what the average American would expect. Secondly, cars are not as friendly about stopping while you cross the road!
Lesson Two – Do not disregard pocket change in Great Britain, as a single coin can be worth as much as a whopping four dollars. Since it takes two dollars to buy a single British pound, it pays to pick up your change. Just don’t chase after it into the street!
Lesson Three – Do not plan to stay late at The British Museum, as the staff will kick you out five minutes before their 5:30 PM closing time. Even our fearless leader could not stay the sweeping tide of security guards who gestured us ever more insistently toward the door.
