Final Comments: June 3

Most of us survived the second ISP week with no loss of life or limb and were relieved to turn in our papers. With that weight off our shoulders, we were free to enjoy the day. We were back with our first mainland bus driver, Dimitris, today, and his giant bus with the table. We all had a very brief moment of nostalgia for our trip to the Peloponnese. On site today, we got to stand inside an extremely precarious looking tomb with a vaulted ceiling supported by less-than-sturdy wooden beams. We made it out alive, but a strong wind might blow it over. We were greeted by a little dog with a big bark at the Lavrion Museum. His name was Tarzan.

Lunch today was interrupted by some tourists at the next restaurant over, who thought it would be funny to whip their vehicles through figure-eights in the dirt parking lot, resulting in a coating of dust on our food, due to the wind. Thank you, caravan of tourists. Without you, we may never have known what French fries taste like with a fine layer of dust. Up at Sounion, we looked for the spot where Byron carved his name, to no avail. We did find extremely overpriced bottles of Snapple at a roadside stand nearby, however, and downed them in record time.
