After we had finished looking through the Ayios Nikolaos Museum, we went to the center of Ayios Nikolaos and began the deceptively hard task of locating the best hotel for the least amount of money. While Ayios Nikolaos is a resort town and has many hotels, most are currently closed as this is the low season for tourism. Adding to the complication, only a handful of us can speak Modern Greek and none of us speak it to any degree of fluency. We paired off and wandered in different directions, searching for a bargain and finding everything from the standard to the bizarre. In the end, we settled on a great hotel located on a point overlooking the bay. From our balconies, we can see the peaks of a half-dozen mountains rising from the water on the other side of the bay and towering up into the mist. Not bad for about 100 Euros for all of us!
