Final Comments: April 9

After a week of mostly cold, gray, and windy days, the sun and blue sky today were very welcomed. The heat was a little unexpected though, prompting changes from jeans to shorts and shorts to bathing suits (changes which mostly occurred in the bus). The time at the beach was amazing. The sun was bright, the sand was hot, the water was refreshing – it was perfect. Many of us would have preferred to stay there than to go back to Athens. Some were even suggesting that we just keep swimming all the way to Africa (a novel idea in itself). After a long, intense week of visiting sites and climbing mountains, having some time on a beautiful beach was the perfect way to relax. And Prof. Rutter has quite the site picked out for himself. The site he works at, Kommos, is literally right on that beautiful beach. It must be quite nice to hear the crashing waves as you work and to hop in the sea during lunch breaks. It gives those of us, who plan to go into archaeology, something to look forward to after so many years of study.
